Objective: Social responsibility is one of the key drivers of societal development and an interdisciplinary concept that can be examined across diverse perspectives and academic fields. The present article seeks to develop a shared and interdisciplinary conceptual framework for social responsibility from the perspectives of the Qur’an and sociology.
Method: A documentary research approach was employed to extract the concepts of social responsibility in both sociology and the Qur’an. In the field of sociology, the documents reviewed included all texts and studies that have examined the concept of social responsibility, while in the Qur’anic analysis, the primary source was the Holy Qur’an. Data were collected in both domains through note-taking. The analytical method used for sociological data was content analysis, whereas in the Qur’anic study, coding and conceptual analysis were applied.
Result: From a sociological perspective, social responsibility encompasses dimensions such as social, political, cultural, economic, environmental, and ethical aspects. In the Qur’an, in addition to these dimensions, military responsibility is also addressed. When relating these dimensions to the existential domains of human beings, three domains are inferred: cognitive, affective, and behavioral.
Conclusion: In both sociological and Qur’anic perspectives, social responsibility originates from three domains: cognition, affect, and behavior. Each of these domains, based on the integration of the two bodies of knowledge, can be examined across economic, political, social, cultural, ethical, legal, environmental, and military dimensions, taking into account their respective indicators.
