Objective: This editorial aims to examine the capacity of the Holy Qur’an to engage with the human and social sciences and to provide Qur’an-based theoretical frameworks, while also outlining the theoretical and methodological orientation of the articles included in the present issue.
Method: The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, focusing on the methodological diversity of contemporary Qur’anic research. It examines approaches including thematic interpretation (tafsīr mawḍūʿī) from an ijtihādī perspective, the analysis of Qur’anic concepts and terminology, established methods in educational and psychological research, and comparative-analytical approaches.
Findings: The findings indicate that the contributions in this issue move beyond mere description toward the extraction of principles, conceptual reconstruction, and theoretical modeling. They demonstrate the potential for establishing a meaningful relationship between Qur’anic inference and strategic governance, as well as between the Qur’an and the empirical and human sciences. The studies also highlight the possibility of employing contemporary scientific theories as analytical tools for uncovering latent semantic dimensions of the Qur’anic text. A substantial group of articles further examines various dimensions of the Qur’anic and intellectual framework of Ayatollah Khamenei.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that Qur’an-based theorization can provide a significant foundation for redefining fundamental concepts in the human sciences and developing alternative theoretical frameworks. Nevertheless, realizing this potential requires the development of a specialized ijtihādī methodology for the human sciences, empirical validation of Qur’an-based models, and the formulation of theories capable of contributing to social policymaking and civilizational institution-building.
