Abstract
The Holy Qurʾān is the book of guidance for human beings. In addition to being a means of guidance, it is possible to extract some scientific references from the Qurʾān as well. It is necessary, however, that this be done carefully and by relying on valid methods. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the present article seeks to discuss some of the scientific references in the verse “Drinking like thirsty camels” (Q56:55). In spite of the apparent contradiction between this verse and the biological characteristics of the camel, the results of our study show that the resemblance of the inhabitants of hellfire to the camel points to some hidden mysteries and scientific wisdom of this noble verse, the most important being in relation to excessive thirst. Many lexicographers and exegetes have explained ‘huyām’ as being a disease of thirst in camels, and in veterinary science, Trypanosomiasis is a disease caused by a protozoan parasite in domestic animals, especially in camels. Excessive thirst is a sign of danger of loss of body fluids and physiological abnormalities of the internal organs, such as the pancreas, digestive tract, and kidneys, which can cause them to cease functioning. The findings of this study are applicable to the studies of scientific exegesis of the Qurʾān as well as the interdisciplinary study of the Qurʾān and biological sciences
