Abstract

Objective: Organizational spirituality has been recognized since the 1980s as a transformative approach in management, reshaping organizational values and perspectives. While numerous models have been proposed, limited studies have examined organizational spirituality through the lens of the Qur’an. This study aims to identify and explain the dimensions of organizational spirituality based on Qur’anic teachings, offering a culturally rooted model for Islamic organizations.
Method: This research adopts a documentary–analytical approach. Data were collected from domestic and international scientific databases on spirituality and workplace spirituality. Relevant Qur’anic verses related to spirituality and its organizational dimensions were extracted using key concepts such as Allah, faith, righteous deeds, piety, and servitude. To enhance interpretation, classical Shi’a exegeses such as al-Mizan and Tafsir al-Namuneh were utilized.
Results: Although the term “spirituality” does not explicitly appear in the Qur’an, concepts such as faith in God, righteous action, a sound heart, piety, hayat tayyibah (pure life), and closeness to God constitute its essence. Qur’anic organizational spirituality is categorized into three dimensions: 1) Individual dimension: soul development (24:37; 91:7–10), knowledge seeking (39:9), inner peace (13:28), and self-realism(17: 70).  2) Group dimension: unity and cohesion (3:103), benevolence (9:10), trust and purity in communication. (25: 63: 24:12). 3) Organizational dimension: responsibility and accountability (4:58), moderation (16:90), resilience (65:2–3), sustainability (14:33), and balanced reward–punishment systems. (5: 38).
Conclusion: The Qur’an emphasizes spirituality through the integration of faith and righteous deeds. Accordingly, organizations inspired by Qur’anic spirituality can provide an environment that fosters both professional and spiritual growth. The threefold dimensions—individual, group, and organizational—offer a comprehensive strategy to enhance job satisfaction, reduce conflicts, strengthen resilience, and align personal and organizational values. This Qur’an-based framework can guide the development of Islamic organizations and improve employees’ quality of work life.
