Objective: This study explores the transformation of the humanities based on the Qur’an, with a special emphasis on the ideas of Ayatollah Khamenei. The importance of the subject lies in the fact that modern humanities, rooted in Western philosophies such as humanism, secularism, and materialism, have been adopted in Islamic societies without critical evaluation, thereby influencing cultural and intellectual frameworks. The research aims to examine leading Islamic perspectives and propose a Qur’an-based framework for re-establishing the humanities.
Method: Using a descriptive-analytical method, the study collected data from the works and statements of prominent Islamic thinkers, including Ayatollah Misbah Yazdi, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, Dr. Mehdi Golshani, and Ayatollah Khamenei. These perspectives were analyzed comparatively to identify strengths and challenges. Complementary references to Qur’anic exegesis and Islamic philosophy were also employed.
Results:
Ayatollah Misbah Yazdi: Emphasized the necessity of reconstructing the philosophical foundations of the humanities by replacing materialist philosophies with theistic ones.
Ayatollah Javadi Amoli: Argued that all knowledge is inherently Islamic, since both the knower and the known are creations of God.
Dr. Mehdi Golshani: Stressed the unity of science and religion, viewing scientific activity as an act of worship.
Ayatollah Khamenei: Highlighted the need for a Qur’an-based re-foundation of the humanities, criticizing current Western-origin models as materialistic. He emphasized critical engagement with Western sciences, reliance on Islamic intellectual heritage, and the development of indigenous theories rooted in the Qur’an.
Conclusion: The research concludes that the transformation of the humanities is an urgent necessity for Islamic societies. The key solution lies in establishing a Qur’an-centered humanities based on Tawḥidic worldview, while critically benefiting from global scientific achievements. This integrative approach ensures both intellectual independence and active participation in modern knowledge.
