Abstract
About a thousand verses of the Holy Qurʾān are related to scientific points, and the vast majority of translators have translated many of these verses erroneously. In order for the message of these verses to be properly conveyed to the audience, the scientific verses of the Qurʾān must be translated according to all the rules of translation of scientific matters. In this article, three important issues have been discussed in order to improve the method of translating scientific verses, to defend the legitimacy of the scientific teachings of the Holy Qurʾān, and to acquaint new translators with the correct method of translating scientific verses in the Qurʾān. The first issue relates to the specific rules of translating scientific verses which is explained by examining the translation of the second verse of Surat al-ʿAlaq (the creation of man from a clot). The second issue pertains to the method of critiquing translations of scientific verses with examples from ten contemporary translations of the Qurʾān. Finally, the translation of verse no. 6 of Surah al-Zumar, which is one of the scientific verses of the Qurʾān that pertains to embryology, is scrutinized and analyzed in five stages.
